Ingredients
- For the homemade Cajun seasoning:
- 2 tablespoons paprika
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 teaspoons onion powder
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 3/4 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper, or to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
- For the garlic bread:
- 1 pound French or any whole bread loaf
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 3 cloves garlic, minced or crushed
- 1 cup fresh parmesan cheese, finely grated
- fresh herbs, optional, to taste, of your choice, chopped, for garnish
Directions
Step 1 -Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
Step 2 -Line an 18x26-inch baking sheet with parchment paper.
Step 3 -In a medium bowl, add the paprika, the salt, the onion powder, the chili powder, the thyme, the oregano, the brown sugar, the cayenne pepper, and the black pepper and stir to combine.
Step 4 -On a cutting board with a sharp or electric knife, cut the bread in half horizontally.
Step 5 -In a separate medium bowl, add the butter, the mayonnaise, the garlic, and 2 tablespoons of the Cajun seasoning mixture and stir to combine. Reserve the remaining Cajun seasoning mixture for another use.
Step 6 -With a butter knife, add the butter mixture to the cut sides of both slices of the bread.
Step 7 -Add both of the buttered bread slices to the prepared baking sheet.
Step 8 -Evenly sprinkle the parmesan cheese over both of the buttered bread slices.
Step 9 -Bake until the butter and the parmesan cheese are melted and the edges are crusty, about 15-20 minutes.
Step 10 -Transfer the baked bread from the oven to a wire rack and let them rest until cool enough to handle safely.
Step 11 -On a cutting board with a sharp or electric knife, cut the baked bread into serving-size pieces.
Step 12 -Serve warm, garnished with the herbs.
