Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon butter, softened, for greasing the dish
- 1 pound bulk breakfast sausage
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 1/4 cups milk
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt, divided
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper, divided
- 6 large eggs
- 1 (16.3-ounce) can refrigerated biscuit dough
- 3 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
Directions
Step 1 -Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Step 2 -Using the butter, grease the bottom and the sides of a 9x13-inch baking dish.
Step 3 -Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Step 4 -Add the sausage to the skillet and cook, while crumbling, until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
Step 5 -Adjust the heat to medium. Evenly sprinkle the flour over the sausage and cook, stirring constantly, for 1 minute.
Step 6 -Add the milk to the sausage mixture and stir to loosen any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
Step 7 -Cook the sausage mixture, stirring often, for 7 minutes.
Step 8 -Season the sausage mixture with 1/2 teaspoon of the salt and 1/4 teaspoon of the pepper, then transfer the skillet from the heat.
Step 9 -Add the eggs, the remaining salt, and the remaining pepper to the prepared baking dish and whisk until well-blended.
Step 10 -Cut each of the biscuits into quarters, then arrange them in a single layer over the eggs.
Step 11 -Sprinkle the biscuits with 1 1/2 cups of the cheddar cheese.
Step 12 -Pour the sausage mixture over the cheese layer and spread it out evenly.
Step 13 -Sprinkle the casserole with the remaining cheese.
Step 14 -Bake the casserole until golden and bubbly, about 25-30 minutes.
Step 15 -Allow the casserole to stand for 5 minutes.
Step 16 -Serve.
