Ingredients
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 6 eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 French baguettes, sliced
- 2 small Granny Smith apples, thinly sliced
- powdered sugar, to taste, for serving
Directions
Step 1 -Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
Step 2 -Heat the butter in a small saucepan until it browns and smells nutty. Let it cool.
Step 3 -Whisk the eggs, the milk, the heavy cream, the maple syrup, the cinnamon, the nutmeg, the ginger, the salt, and the vanilla together until well-combined.
Step 4 -Drizzle the cooled butter into the milk mixture and stir to mix well.
Step 5 -Layer the baguette slices and the apple slices in the prepared baking pan.
Step 6 -Pour the milk mixture over the bread and the apples and let them soak, at least 20 minutes at room temperature or overnight in the refrigerator.
Step 7 -Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Step 8 -Bake the French toast, covered, for 30 minutes.
Step 9 -Uncover the dish and bake until it is heated through, about 10-15 minutes.
Step 10 -Top the French toast with the powdered sugar and serve.
