This White Texas Sheet Cake brings the party wherever it goes! The moist, tender cake has an almost custard-like richness to it, and that's only the cake. Ingredients
- For the cake:
- 1 cup butter
- 1 cup water
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 teaspoon almond extract or vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- For the frosting:
- 4 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract or vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/4 cup milk
Directions
Step 1 -Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
Step 2 -Grease a 15x10-inch baking pan.
Step 3 -In a medium-sized saucepan, bring 1 cup of the butter and the water to a boil.
Step 4 -In a large bowl, combine the flour and the sugar.
Step 5 -Add the eggs, the sour cream, 1 teaspoon of the almond extract, and the baking soda into the flour mixture, mixing to combine
Step 6 -Slowly and a little at a time, add the boiling butter-water mixture to the flour-egg mixture, stirring constantly until smooth.
Step 7 -Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan.
Step 8 -Bake until golden-brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, about 20-22 minutes.
Step 9 -Allow the cake to cool for 20 minutes.
Step 10 -In a mixing bowl, add the powdered sugar and the remaining almond extract.
Step 11 -In a medium-sized saucepan, add the remaining butter and the milk and bring to a boil.
Step 12 -Pour the butter mixture into the powdered sugar mixture, stirring until smooth and combined.
Step 13 -Spread the frosting mixture over the still-warm cake.
Step 14 -Serve.
