Ingredients
- 12 ounces penne or a similar pasta
- 1/2 pound Italian sausage or lean ground beef
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups pizza toppings, such as green bell peppers, mushrooms, or black olives, of your choice
- 14 ounces diced tomatoes, drained
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 14 ounces pizza sauce
- 2 cups marinara sauce or pasta sauce
- 1 cup pepperoni slices, divided
- 3 cups mozzarella and cheddar blend, shredded
- 1/4 cup parmesan cheese, shredded
Directions
Step 1 -Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.
Step 2 -Grease a 9x13-inch pan.
Step 3 -In a large pot, cook the pasta to al dente, according to the package directions.
Step 4 -Drain the pasta thoroughly.
Step 5 -In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the sausage, the onion, and the garlic and cook until the sausage is browned and crumbly, about 5-7 minutes.
Step 6 -Drain the skillet of any excess fat.
Step 7 -If your pizza toppings of choice require cooking, like green peppers, add them to the ground sausage and sauté until tender, about 3-4 minutes.
Step 8 -Add the diced tomatoes, the oregano, the Italian seasoning, the pizza sauce, and the marinara sauce to the meat mixture and simmer for 5 minutes.
Step 9 -Toss the cooked pasta with the sauce mixture, 1/2 of the pepperoni slices, and any pizza toppings that do not need to be cooked, like black olives.
Step 10 -Pour the pasta mixture into the prepared pan.
Step 11 -Top the pasta mixture with the mozzarella and cheddar cheese blend, the remaining pepperoni, and the parmesan cheese.
Step 12 -Bake until the cheese is browned, about 18-22 minutes.
Step 13 -Serve.
