Ingredients
- 1 lemon, juiced
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon white sugar
- salt, to taste
- black pepper, to taste
- 4 pounds New York strip steak, thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, chopped
- fresh cilantro leaves, optional, to taste, for garnish
Directions
Step 1 -In a medium bowl, add the lemon juice, the soy sauce, the white sugar, the salt, and the black pepper and whisk to combine.
Step 2 -In a large bowl, add the steak slices and cover with the marinade mixture. Toss to coat.
Step 3 -Add the cornstarch to the steak mixture and stir to combine.
Step 4 -Cover the steak mixture and transfer to the refrigerator to marinate for at least 1 hour and up to overnight.
Step 5 -In a large skillet over medium heat, heat the vegetable oil.
Step 6 -Transfer the marinated steak to a large platter, allowing the excess liquid to drip off. Discard the remaining marinade.
Step 7 -Working in batches, add the steak slices to the hot oil and fry until they reach an internal temperature of at least 135 degrees F for medium rare, about 2-4 minutes per side.
Step 8 -Transfer the fried steak slices to a clean plate.
Step 9 -In a small skillet over medium heat, heat the olive oil.
Step 10 -Add the onion and the garlic to the hot olive oil and cook until the onion is golden-brown, about 5-7 minutes.
Step 11 -Serve the steak slices topped with the onion mixture and garnished with the cilantro.
