Ingredients
- 3 cups potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1/2 teaspoon salt, plus more, to taste
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 (10.5-ounce) can cream of mushroom soup
- 1 1/2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded, divided
- 1/2 cup milk
- ground black pepper, to taste
Directions
Step 1 -Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
Step 2 -Coat a 9x13-inch casserole dish with nonstick spray.
Step 3 -Place the potatoes in a large bowl.
Step 4 -Pour the melted butter on top of the potatoes and sprinkle them with 1/2 teaspoon of the salt.
Step 5 -Mix until the potatoes are thoroughly coated.
Step 6 -Line the bottom and the sides of the prepared casserole dish with the potatoes, overlapping as needed.
Step 7 -Bake until the potatoes are fork-tender, about 20-30 minutes.
Step 8 -Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Step 9 -Cook and stir the ground beef in the hot skillet until it is browned and crumbly, about 5-7 minutes.
Step 10 -Drain the fat from the skillet.
Step 11 -Transfer the cooked beef to a large bowl.
Step 12 -Add the cream of mushroom soup, 3/4 cup of the cheddar cheese, and the milk to the beef mixture, and then season it with the extra salt and the pepper.
Step 13 -Mix the beef mixture until well-combined.
Step 14 -Pour the beef mixture over the potato crust and bake until heated through, about 15 minutes.
Step 15 -Sprinkle the remaining cheese over the top of the filling and bake until melted, about 4-5 minutes.
Step 16 -Serve.
