Ingredients
- 1/2 pound lean ground beef
- 1/2 pound mild Italian pork sausage, ground or links with casings removed
- 1 small red onion, chopped
- 4 large cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes, optional
- 1 (32-ounce) carton low-sodium chicken broth or chicken stock
- 1 (24-ounce) jar marinara sauce
- 12 ounces spaghetti noodles
- fresh basil, to taste, chopped, for garnish
- parmesan cheese, to taste, grated, for garnish
Directions
Step 1 -In a large pot or a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat, add the ground beef, the sausage, the red onions, the garlic, the salt, the pepper, and the red pepper flakes and cook, while crumbling the beef and sausage, until the onions are soft and the meat is browned, about 8-10 minutes.
Step 2 -Add the chicken broth, the marinara sauce, and the spaghetti to the pot and using tongs or a wooden spoon, gently press the spaghetti into the mixture until they begin to soften and submerge fully in the liquid, about 1 minute.
Step 3 -Bring the spaghetti mixture to a boil, while stirring often.
Step 4 -Reduce the heat to low and simmer the spaghetti mixture, stirring every few minutes, until the pasta is al dente and the excess liquid is absorbed, about 15-20 minutes.
Step 5 -Serve the pasta hot and topped with the basil and the parmesan cheese.
