Ingredients
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 2 tablespoons paprika
- 2 teaspoons dry mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/2 (12 fluid ounce) can beer, with the beer still in the can
- 1 (3 pound) whole chicken
Directions
Step 1 -Preheat an outdoor grill to a medium-high heat, around 375 degrees F.
Step 2 -Add the brown sugar, chili powder, paprika, dry mustard, salt, and ground black pepper together in a bowl.
Step 3 -Put the 1/2 full can of beer in the center of a plate.
Step 4 -Rinse the chicken under some cold running water.
Step 5 -Discard the giblets and the neck of chicken, then drain and pat it dry.
Step 6 -Fit the whole chicken over the top of the can of beer, with the legs on the bottom and kept upright.
Step 7 -Sprinkle a teaspoon of your seasoning mixture on the top of the chicken. The beer may foam up when your seasonings fall into the can.
Step 8 -Rub the rest of the seasoning mix over the entirety of the chicken.
Step 9 -Put the chicken, standing on top of the can, immediately onto the grill.
Step 10 -Close the lid and barbeque the chicken until it is no longer pink and the juices run clear, about 1 hour 15 minutes. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the thigh should be 165 degrees F.
Step 11 -Move the chicken off from the grill and discard the beer can.
Step 12 -Cover the chicken with a doubled sheet of aluminum foil, and allow it to rest in a warm area for 10 minutes before slicing.
Step 13 -Serve!
