Ingredients
- butter, to taste, for greasing the pan
- 6 large eggs
- 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
- 2 teaspoons coarse salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground pepper
- 2 baking potatoes, peeled
- 10 ounces sugar-baked ham, thinly sliced to less than 1/4-inch-thick
- 1 (10-ounce) package frozen broccoli, thawed and squeezed dry with the paper towels
- 1/2 cup cheddar cheese, grated
- fresh parsley, optional, to taste, chopped, for garnish
Directions
Step 1 -Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Step 2 -Using the butter, grease a 9-inch-round, 2-inch-deep cake pan.
Step 3 -Line the bottom of the pan with a parchment-paper round.
Step 4 -In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs and the heavy cream.
Step 5 -Season the egg mixture with the salt and the pepper.
Step 6 -Thinly slice the potatoes to less than 1/4-inch thickness.
Step 7 -Drop the potato slices into the egg mixture.
Step 8 -Lift the potatoes out of the egg mixture and arrange 1/2 of the potatoes in the prepared pan.
Step 9 -Layer the potato slices evenly with the ham, the broccoli, and the cheese, then top with the remaining potatoes.
Step 10 -Pour the egg mixture over the top of the layers.
Step 11 -Press down firmly so the potatoes are fully submerged in the egg mixture.
Step 12 -Cover the cake pan with foil and bake until the potatoes are tender, about 1 hour.
Step 13 -Uncover and bake until golden and set, about 30-45 minutes.
Step 14 -Allow the bake to cool in the pan for 15-20 minutes.
Step 15 -Run a knife around the edge of the bake and carefully invert it onto a plate.
Step 16 -Peel off the parchment-paper round and flip the bake over.
Step 17 -Garnish with the chopped parsley, slice, and serve.
