French Toast is only as good as bread it’s made with. Some prefer brioche or challah, but this Sourdough French Toast will blow you away. The thick, slightly sour bread is soaked in a sweet batter then seared in a skillet. The contrast of flavors makes it more than just a sweet treat but a truly engagingly delicious breakfast.Top as desired, but we’re always fans of maple syrup and fresh fruit for our Sourdough French Toast.

4 large eggs, beaten
2 cups whole milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 tablespoon cinnamon
2 tablespoons butter, more as needed
8 slices sourdough bread
powdered sugar, optional, for serving

Step 1

Beat the eggs in a large bowl.

Step 2

Mix in the milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon.

Step 3

Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a skillet over medium heat.

Step 4

Dunk slices of the bread in the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are evenly coated.

Step 5

Place the coated bread slices in a skillet and cook until the slices are golden brown on both sides.

Step 6

Top with powdered sugar and additional toppings and serve.
