Time: 50 minutes
Yield: 8 servings
Sometimes doing things the old-fashioned way really is the way to go! Old Fashioned Green Beans feature the crunchy, garden-fresh veggie flavored with tangy onion and fatty bacon. Add in a little butter and you have a side dish unlike any other. Old Fashioned Green Beans are perfectly designed to go with mashed potatoes and chicken-fried steaks, or any other country mainstay. These are a side dish so good you may want them more than the main course!
In a large dutch oven over medium heat, fry the bacon until almost cooked through on both sides, about 2 minutes per side.
Add the onion and garlic and cook until the garlic is fragrant and the bacon is crispy, for about 1-2 minutes.
Add the green beans and the water.
Bring the water to a boil and cook until the green beans are fork-tender and cooked through, for about 15-30 minutes.
Drain the water.
Place the green beans, onions, and bacon in a serving bowl.
Season with salt, pepper, and butter.
