Time: 3 hours 5 minutes
Yield: 6 servings
Warm, pillowy pita with no kneading required! Homemade Pita Bread is a versatile and tasty bread that is ideally suited to holding falafel, tzatziki sauce, and fresh vegetables. Alternatively, just dip your Homemade Pita Bread in your favorite sauces and just enjoy the fluffy hearty texture!
Whisk together the flour, salt, and yeast.
Add the water and the olive oil, stirring with a spatula until a dough forms. The mixture should appear dry and unevenly combined.
Continue to mix the dough with your hands briefly until all of the flour is absorbed.
Drizzle the olive oil over the top of the dough and turn the dough to coat.
Cover the mixing bowl with a towel and place in a warm spot in your kitchen to rise for about1 hour 30 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 550 degrees F with a baking sheet or pizza stone inside on the top rack.
Lightly flour a work surface.
Turn the dough out on the floured surface and separate it into 6 equal portions.
Roll the 6 portions of dough into balls and flatten each of them again with a rolling pin.
Cut 6 pieces of parchment paper and transfer each piece of dough onto the 6 pieces of parchment paper. Let the dough rest for 15 minutes.
Once the oven is preheated, ideally using a pizza wheel, shimmy the pita on the parchment paper to the pizza stone or baking sheet. Do not cook more than 3 at a time.
Bake until the pita is golden, about 2 minutes. Repeat with the remaining pita.
