Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
Stir the taco sauce, water, tomatoes, taco seasoning, and rice together in the prepared baking dish.
Add the meatballs and 1/2 cup cheese, stirring to combine.
Cover the baking dish tightly with foil.
Bake until the rice is tender, about 45-60 minutes.
About 5 minutes before the dish finishes cooking, remove the dish from the oven, uncover it, and sprinkle it with the remaining cheese.
Return the dish to the oven and bake uncovered until the cheese is melted, for about 5 minutes.
Garnish with your favorite toppings and serve.
