Classic Bran Muffins

Classic Bran Muffins may have a reputation for being boring, but these breakfast delights are far from bland! Each is filled with smoky molasses, sweet brown sugar and fruity raisins, so every bite is delectable! Classic Bran Muffins may be healthy, but they don’t skimp out on flavor. These also make great snacks to give you a burst of energy in the afternoon!


1 1/2 cups wheat bran
1 cup buttermilk
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 egg
2/3 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup raisins


Step 1

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

Step 2

Grease 12 muffin cups or line them with paper muffin liners.

Step 3

Mix together the wheat bran and buttermilk.

Step 4

Let the bran and buttermilk mixture stand for 10 minutes.

Step 5

Beat together the oil, egg, brown sugar, and vanilla in a separate bowl.

Step 6

Add the sugar mixture to the buttermilk/bran mixture.

Step 7

Sift together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.

Step 8

Stir the flour mixture into the buttermilk mixture, until just blended and careful not to overmix.

Step 9

Fold in the raisins.

Step 10

Spoon the batter into the prepared muffin tins.

Step 11

Bake until a toothpick inserted into the center of a muffin comes out clean, about 15-20 minutes.

Step 12

Cool and serve!
