Barb's Buttermilk Biscuits

Barb’s Buttermilk Biscuits are sure to provide southern comfort to your entire family! They’re the very model of buttermilk biscuits: light, fluffy, rich, and of course buttery. Barb's Buttermilk Biscuits are speedy and easy to whip up even during hectic mornings so you can enjoy them at any time! Make sure you have plenty of butter and jam; they’re infinitely better than store-bought biscuits.


2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup shortening
3/4 cup buttermilk


Step 1

Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F.

Step 2

Combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.

Step 3

Cut in the shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 4

Stir in the buttermilk.

Step 5

Knead the dough gently.

Step 6

Roll the dough out to 1 1/2-inch thickness.

Step 7

Cut the rolled dough with a 2 1/2-inch biscuit cutter.

Step 8

Place the dough rounds on a lightly greased baking sheet.

Step 9

Bake until golden brown, about 10-15 minutes.
